What’s better than Maverick on the big screen?  Maverick on IMAX® 3-D.  Get ready to party like it’s 1986!

Paramount Pictures announced they will release a new 3-D version of the 1986 mega hit ‘Top Gun‘ in select IMAX® theaters beginning February 8, 2013.  For only SIX DAYS, fans can grab a seat for the ride of their lives.

TOP GUN was re-mastered for the big screen from high-resolution original negative scans and painstakingly converted to 3D by Legend3D under the supervision of the film’s director, Tony Scott. Rendered in 3D, the film’s complex, long shots reveal extraordinary depth and clarity, allowing viewers to explore every detail of the action. From the spectacular aerial dogfights to the intense close-ups in the cockpits, each frame enables the audience to feel a part of the story.

The testosterone fueled Cruise classic tells the story of the macho students of an elite US Flying school for advanced fighter pilots competing to be best in the class, and one romancing the teacher.  The movie costarred Kelly McGillis, Val Kilmer and Anthony Edwards, and was directed brilliantly by Tony Scott.  The movie provided one of the most famous lines in movie history.  Watch it below:

The fan frenzy for Maverick and Goose and Ice all began when the trailer first flew onto movies screens (yeah, we went there!).  Do you remember where you were when you first saw this:

Director Tony Scott did not disappoint when it came to the aerial sequences.  Buckle up and watch this breathtaking battle in the skies, the final fight in the movie.  Imagine this scene in 3-D!

The ladies were in for a real treat when Maverick and his buddies took to the beach to work out their rivalry in a pretty intense game of volleyball.

The next moment below ranks as one of our personal favorites and brings a smile to our faces every time we hear it on the radio (or at a Karaoke bar).

Without a doubt the soundtrack from ‘Top Gun‘ defined the 80′s.  Kenny Loggins rocked it out in his awesome music video that was a huge favorite on MTV.
