It’s as if Tom is literally popping out of the graphic novel in this mech-suited action shot…The Warner Brothers movie is still shooting in the UK and is scheduled to open March 14, 2014.

Based on the international best-selling graphic novel of the same name by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, Tom plays Lt. Col. Bill Cage, a soldier fighting in a war with aliens.  Quickly, he is killed but finds himself caught in a time loop of his last day in the battle, enabling him to live and become better skilled along the way in the hopes of finally saving himself and defeating the aliens.

This movie still gives us a great idea of how the graphic novel look and feel is going to be achieved.  To learn some basics on what is a graphic novel, click on this link for a great website that allows you to dive into that world.  Bottom line, they are novel length comic books and usually deal with much more mature themes than, say, Archie comics!  (Art Spiegelman’sMaus‘ was the first graphic novel to win the Pulitzer Prize in 1992).

Three great examples of graphic novels turned into successful movies include:

  • 300
  • The Avengers
  • Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

‘All You Need Is Kill’ is a year and a half away, but with such an impressive artistic team behind the movie, and a super cool Japanese graphic novel as it’s source, it’ll definitely be worth the wait!

Emily Blunt will co-star with Tom Cruise in ‘All You Need Is Kill.’

Oscar® nominee Cruise (the ‘Mission: Impossible films, ‘Collateral,’ ‘Jerry Maguire‘) will star alongside Emily Blunt (‘The Devil Wears Prada,’ ‘The Adjustment Bureau‘) and an international cast that also includes Bill Paxton (‘Aliens,’ HBO’s ‘Big Love‘), Jonas Armstrong (BBC TV’s ‘Robin Hood‘), Tony Way (HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones‘), Kick Gurry (Australian TV’s ‘Tangle‘), Franz Drameh (‘Attack the Block‘), Dragomir Mrsic (‘Snabba Cash II‘), and Charlotte Riley (‘World Without End‘).
