It’s party time Tom Cruise fans. Save the date. March 14, 2014. That’s the opening day of Tom’s new epic sci-fi thriller, ‘All You Need Is Kill.’ Warner Brothers Pictures officially announced the release date today. We know where we’ll be on March 14, 2014. Sure, it’s a year and a half away, but with such an impressive artistic team behind the movie (see below), and a super cool Japanese graphic novel as it’s source (see below), we know it will be worth the wait.
In the movie, Tom plays a soldier fighting in a war with aliens. Quickly, he is killed but finds himself caught in a time loop of his last day in the battle, enabling him to live and become better skilled along the way in the hopes of finally saving himself and defeating the aliens.
Oscar® nominee Cruise (the ‘Mission: Impossible‘ films, ‘Collateral,’ ‘Jerry Maguire‘) will star alongside Emily Blunt (‘The Devil Wears Prada,’ ‘The Adjustment Bureau‘) and an international cast that also includes Bill Paxton (‘Aliens,’ HBO’s ‘Big Love‘), Jonas Armstrong (BBC TV’s ‘Robin Hood‘), Tony Way (HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones‘), Kick Gurry (Australian TV’s ‘Tangle‘), Franz Drameh (‘Attack the Block‘), Dragomir Mrsic (‘Snabba Cash II‘), and Charlotte Riley (‘World Without End‘).
Doug Liman (‘The Bourne Identity,’ ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith‘) is directing the film from a screenplay by Dante Harper, Joby Harold and upcoming ‘Jack Reacher‘ writer/director Christopher McQuarrie. The movie is based on the acclaimed graphic novel ‘All You Need is Kill‘ by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.
Hiroshi Sakurazaka was born in 1970. According to his publisher’s website, after a career in information technology, he published his first novel ‘Wizards’ Web’ in 2003. His 2004 short story ‘Saitama Chainsaw Massacre’ won the 16th Hayakawa’s S-F Magazine Reader’s Award. His other novels include ‘Characters‘ (co-written with Hiroki Azuma) and ‘Slum Online.’
All You Need is Kill was published in Japan in 2004. Its English version hit shelves in 2009.
