Tuesday night at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City, Tom received the fourth ever Friar’s Club Entertainment Icon Award.  Although known more for roasting people than toasting them, the Friar’s Club event was definitely a celebration and recognition of Tom’s work in film over the past 30 years. He joins Douglas Fairbanks, Cary Grant and Frank Sinatra in this select group.

Alec Bladwin hosted the event, and a few of Tom’s co-stars, Kevin Pollack and Cuba Gooding, Jr., attended the ceremony as well. Jerry Lewis was supposed to be involved but was rushed to the hospital earlier that day and had to cancel.

The Friar’s Club has been around since 1904. It’s a private club whose members are mostly comedians and celebrities. Known as much for their roasts as anything else, the club chooses one member each year to skewer. Their motto is: “We only roast the ones we love.”  Follow them at Twitter: @TheFriarsClub.
