We watched the behind-the-scenes footage of Tom Cruise (‘Ethan Hunt’) climbing the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. We have seen the images of the IMF team determinedly walking through a sandstorm. We have heard both Tom and director Brad Bird talk about filming the scenic city. And now, the all-star cast has returned to the desert city of Dubai for the global premiere of ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ at the opening night of the Dubai International Film Festival!
Fans and the media came out in droves for the opportunity to meet and speak with the stars of the fourth ‘Mission: Impossible’ film. As you can see in the video below, Paula Patton walked the red carpet first (appearing at 7:05 in the video) and like Anil Kapoor, Simon Pegg and Tom (first appearing at 34:19 and later reappearing at 1:11:30 in the video), she made sure to greet as many fans as possible at the Madinat Jumeriah before the world premiere of the film.
The Gulf News reported Tom spent “two hours and 15 minutes on the red carpet,” devoting his time to meeting, signing autographs and taking photos with fans, although he did leave the barriers once to greet His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Since Tom began his whirlwind international tour to promote ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ in Tokyo on December 1, 2011, he has appeared and met fans in Seoul, Mumbai and Dubai and will continue his travels with a stop in Russia tomorrow.

Prior to the black tie screening at the Dubai International Film Festival, Tom has a chance to speak with numerous international press outlets about his time in the cosmopolitan city of Dubai and ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.’
According to The National, scenes of the movie were “shot at the Deira side of Dubai Creek, at the bridge leading to the Meydan Racecourse in Nad El Sheba (for a rather thrilling car sequence), in DIFC (for a huge shamal sandstorm), in Satwa (for further shamal high-jinx), at the Zabeel Saray hotel (which plays the role of a glittering Indian palace) and, of course, the Burj Khalifa.”
As Tom explained to CBS News, in addition to the challenge of performing stunts at the top of the Burj Khalifa, he also had adapt to hot sun-baked surface of the building as well as figure out how to deal the cross winds, “I had to figure out, actually, how to fly. I had to figure out how to use my feet as a rudder … The first couple of times I was slamming into the building.” Tom joked to Alan!Live, “I wasn’t afraid of heights – I was afraid of falling.”
Blamed for the terrorist bombing of the Kremlin, IMF operative ‘Ethan Hunt’ (Tom Cruise) is disavowed along with the rest of the agency when the President initiates “Ghost Protocol.” Left without any resources or backup, ‘Ethan’ must find a way to clear his agency’s name and prevent another attack. To complicate matters further, ‘Ethan’ is forced to embark on this mission with a team of fellow IMF fugitives whose personal motives he does not fully know.
Directed by two-time Academy Award winner Brad Bird, ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ stars Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Paula Patton, Michael Nyqvist, Vladimir Mashkov, Josh Holloway, Anil Kapoor and Léa Seydoux.
‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ will be in theaters and IMAX in the U.S. on December 21, 2011!
