Jeremy Renner Tells Ann Curry ‘M:I-Ghost Protocol’ is a “Big, Fun Action Movie”

“This is quite beautiful, everything looked like little Legoland down below,” Jeremy Renner joked with Ann Curry during a ‘Today’ show interview on November 18, 2011. Jeremy told the veteran ‘Today’ show anchor that despite his concerns about hanging out a window from the top of the Burj Khalifa, he did actually have a chance to admire the view. Of course, that sort of thing is all in a days work when you join Tom Cruise in making a “big, fun action movie” like ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol!’

Jeremy could laugh about his death-defying experience now, but at the time, he admitted he was so scared he was afraid he might vomit. As Jeremy explained during the interview, the crew definitely kept everyone safe during the stunt sequences “but it just didn’t feel safe when you just have this wire hanging off your belt loop, essentially and you’re hanging out about a mile and something in the air.”

Luckily, Jeremy conquered his fear and was able to appreciate the panoramic scenery from his unique position, at least for the 30 seconds or so that he wasn’t worried about falling from the top of the tallest building in the world. Although Jeremy lightheartedly pointed out that if he did fall from such a great height that he would have some time to make a few calls on his way down!

The two-time Academy Award nominated actor has come a long way from living on 29-cent burgers to starring opposite Tom Cruise in the latest ‘Mission: Impossible’ movie, the fourth in the series. While Tom’s character, ‘Ethan Hunt,’ is well known as the lead IMF agent, Jeremy’s character (‘Brandt’) is a bit of a mystery. During the ‘Today’ show interview, Jeremy confirmed that ‘Brandt’ was an analyst for the Secretary (played by Tom Wilkinson) but despite the fact that he joins forces with ‘Ethan Hunt’s rogue IMF team, ‘Brandt’s allegiance remains unclear. However, his fear of heights is very clear and as you can see in this clip, his concern is justified!

While ‘Ethan Hunt,’ ‘Brandt,’ ‘Benji Dunn’ (Simon Pegg) and ‘Jane Carter’ (Paula Patton) may have “No Backup. No Contact. No Plan. No Choice,” they don’t let those minor details deter them from their new mission. Disavowed by the President, the surviving members of the IMF team will band together to find a way to prove their organization was not responsible for a bombing at the Kremlin.

Directed by two-time Academy Award winner Brad Bird, ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ stars Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Paula Patton, Michael Nyqvist, Vladimir Mashkov, Josh Holloway, Anil Kapoor and Léa Seydoux. The film will be released in IMAX theaters on December 16, 2011 and nationwide on December 21, 2011.
