Yesterday, the TomCruise.com team unveiled the latest ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ movie poster and today we have some amazing behind-the-scenes footage of Tom running along the outside window on the top of the Burj Khalifa. Seriously, jumps out a window, runs along the side and catapults himself from one side of the building to the other! Check it out!
Oscar-winning director Brad Bird kicks off the action by revealing, “we’re a mile and a half above the earth on the tallest building on the planet, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, and we’re filming a scene where Tom Cruise is climbing on the outside of the building.” After looking out at the panoramic view, Brad deadpans to the camera, “it’s just another day at work on ‘Mission: Impossible.’” And you thought your workday was demanding!
If you look carefully at the video, you can catch a glimpse of the cameras extended outside of the building on special rigging as well as on a helicopter. Brad took advantage of the unique setting at the top of the Burj Khalifa to film several scenes with IMAX cameras, including the action sequence highlighted in the behind-the-scenes footage. Brad Bird recently enthused to the “Los Angeles Times that he is so excited that almost 25 minutes of the film were shot with IMAX cameras because “you really feel it when it’s in IMAX.”
Dubai and the Burj Khalifa have been prominently featured in the ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ movie posters promoting the film. The most recent poster included the IMF team, Jeremy Renner (‘Brandt’), Simon Pegg (‘Benji Dunn’) and Paula Patton (‘Jane Carter’) flanking Tom Cruise (‘Ethan Hunt’) with the iconic building appearing in the background, while the first ‘M:I-GP’ poster was an intense close-up of Tom taken from that same scene. Paramount Pictures also announced the limited release of the film in IMAX theaters on December 16, 2011 with a U.S. IMAX movie poster of Tom clinging to the top of the Burj Khalifa as well as a Japanese version of the movie poster with Tom staring down from the top of the building.
Disavowed by the President after they were blamed for a bombing at the Kremlin, the IMF team has “No Plan. No Backup. No Choice.” But they do have the relentless drive to clear the organization’s name, even if that means Operating off the grid when the President initiates “Ghost Protocol,” Ethan and his team must find a way to clear his agency’s name and prevent another attack.
