With big action, big scenery and Tom Cruise hanging off the tallest building in the world, is it any surprise director Brad Bird shot ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ in IMAX?
Approximately 25 minutes of the film were shot with IMAX camera, including the vertigo-inducing action sequence that results in IMF agent, ‘Ethan Hunt’ (Tom Cruise) clinging to the Burj Khalifa in Dubai as depicted in the Paramount Pictures movie poster announcing the early IMAX release on December 16, 2011.
As Brad enthused to the ‘Los Angeles Times, “the image quality – you can’t get that any other way … you really feel it when it’s in IMAX” and he is very excited about the early release in limited IMAX theaters because “to me, the best example of showmanship now is IMAX.”
We can hardly wait for the fourth installment of the ‘Mission: Impossible’ series! In ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,’ IMF agent, ‘Ethan Hunt’ (Tom Cruise) and his team have been accused of a bombing at the Kremlin. Rather than returning to Washington, D.C. to face charges, the team escapes. Operating off the grid, the blacklisted agents try to clear the organization’s name.
J.J. Abrams, who is co-producing the movie along with Tom, said the IMAX footage “is looking insane!” What’s even more amazing? Tom really is hanging from the tallest building in the world!
‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ stars Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Paula Patton, Michael Nyqvist, Vladmir Mashkov, Josh Holloway, Anil Kapoor and Léa Seydoux. Directed by Brad Bird, the film will be released nationwide on December 21, 2011, with a limited IMAX release on December 16th.
