Life In A Day YouTube Movie Gets Sundance Film Festival Premiere!!

The worldwide collaborative documentary film project Life In A Day – produced under the supervision of Tom Cruise collaborator, Oscar-nominated director Ridley Scott, and Oscar-winning documentarian Kevin Macdonald – premieres tonight both at the Sundance Film Festival and live on an official YouTube channel! The project launched on July 6, 2010, with a global call for YouTube viewers to record and upload the stories of their personal life stories to be edited together into a feature film. The response was incredible and the results of over six months of work will debut today.

The initial call for submissions generated over 80,000 videos coming from over 140 countries around the world. Scott – who worked with Tom on the movie Legend – teamed with Macdonald to whittle over 4,500 hours of footage into a single 90 minute documentary. With Macdonald’s experience creating One Day In September, an Academy Award-winning historical documentary, we’re sure the final product will be amazing. Nonetheless, that’s an awful lot of footage to wade through eve for these cutting room maestros!

If you’re skeptical about how much work that would be, you may want to check out the team’s guide to aspiring film editors to find out what goes into piecing this kind of project together. It’s massive!

We can’t wait to see what Life In A Day will show us about the planet! It’s cool that so many people were able to share in the experience.

As you can see from the awesome graphic on the film’s official YouTube channel below, the countdown is almost over:

Also joining the collaboration is British singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding, the latest U.K. singing sensation who contributes an original song specifically for the production. We’re looking forward to hearing it!
