More Minority Report Technology Comes To Transparent Displays!!

The technology portrayed in the Tom Cruise movie Minority Report continues to come to fruition in real life, this time with advances in the transparent displays Tom’s character used throughout the science fiction film! Those incredible clear-as-glass screens were one of the stylish visual elements director Steven Spielberg used to demonstrate writer Philip K. Dick’s vision of the future. Less than 10 years ago these screens seemed like a distant dream, but today they are very nearly available on store shelves!

At the latest Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, as reported by Engadget, the technology giant Samsung revealed advances in the transparent screens. The Korean manufacturer has been showing off since 2009. Where the first screens only clocked in at a somewhat small four inches, the newest transparent displays are up to 19 inches in size diagonally! That’s literally a sizable jump.

With this technology, pretty soon we’ll have windows we can surf the Internet on. Combine these fantastic new transparent OLED display surfaces with the newly refined and hacked Kinect technology we’ve written about earlier, and you’re getting awful close to the exact future envisioned in the 2002 movie.

Take a closer look at this amazing technology in the video below:

Also seen in this video is Samsung’s innovative flexible displays, about as thick as a sheet of construction paper. Pretty soon we will all be able to wallpaper our homes with LED screens. What we’ll put on those screens is a discussion for another day.

For all the fans that want a second look at all the technological marvels predicted by Minority Report, you may want to pick up a copy of the DVD or Blu Ray. Check out the details below to learn how:
