J.J. Abrams, Tom Cruise’s partner in producing the upcoming Mission Impossible 4, is set to introduce his latest project with the premiere of Undercovers this Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 8 p.m. on NBC. The movies maestro who directed Tom in the third installation in the Mission Impossible movies series really hit the big time as a television producer, creating hit shows like LOST and Alias. While fans of Tom Cruise may know Abrams from his work on the silver screen, both with Tom and as the director of the Star Trek reboot in 2009, television has been the medium of choice for this multi-talented creative force.
Abrams latest in Undercovers actually harkens back to his work on Alias, reintroducing the themes of espionage and family. The show revolves around Steven Bloom (played by Boris Kodje) and his wife Samantha (played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw), a pair of retired CIA agents now running a catering company in Los Angeles. With a friend from the agency gone missing on a mission, the couple is dragged back into action only to discover the thrill of spy work resparks the romance in their marriage!
Now that sounds action packed! And that’s before we even get to the spy scenes.
Undercovers is the first television series Abrams has embarked on since co-creating the hugely popular series Fringe with partners Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, who also happened to write the script for Mission Impossible 3. We think we’re beginning to see a pattern here in collaborators between Tom and J.J.
Also, as we mentioned previously, Abrams work on Undercovers marks the first pilot he has directed since LOST in 2004. So prepare for the auteur treatment from the creator on the kick-off for this new series.

The is one we definitely have been waiting anxiously to check out!
