The folks at IGN – the popular gamer website and news source – stepped up and showed their wild side by getting in a race with Tom Cruise! The video game pros showed some real life gamesmanship during the world premiere events for Knight and Day in Seville, jumping into high-powered drifting BMWs to chase down Tom on the Spanish streets.
IGN’s Tom Butler found himself training for the race by taking a quick tutorial in high-speed 180s from Knight and Day co-star Cameron Diaz. The gamer looked up to the task even as the g-forces kicked in when Cameron slammed the handbrake for the sudden stop. We’re guessing that’s the type of experience that’s tough to replicate on an XBox 360 or PlayStation 3.
However, Butler’s joyride through the Spanish plaza was only the warm-up to the main event. With a world drift driving champion taking the wheel, you would expect the gaming expert to chase down Tom Cruise in a hurry. That is, since the Knight and Day star really is only a motorcycle enthusiast, you wouldn’t think he’d gun it, right?
No dice! After knocking about the plaza through the squeal of tires and wafting rubber smoke, two wheels took the marker over four
Thanks to Butler for coming out and giving Tom a great race! The British gaming journalist truly was a good sport.
You can fast forward to the sweet stunt driving at 3:50 in the video. Otherwise, you can check out a fine review of the new Nintendo 3DS handheld gaming system at the front of the clip.
It’s not the first time IGN got in touch with Tom. The gamers talked with him back during the release of The Last Samurai. The interest in Tom’s work is always appreciated – thanks guys!
Which of Tom’s movies do you think should be made into a video game? Knight and Day looks like an obvious candidate with it’s blend of action, comedy and romance. But what about some of Tom’s early work, like The Last Samurai?
