As the excitement builds for the film premiere of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol later this year, the TomCruise.com team is eager to introduce you to the new cast members of ‘Ghost Protocol’ as well as reacquaint you with returning cast members with a series of actor bios! We begin the series with a profile of everyone’s favorite supergeek, Simon Pegg as ‘Benji Dunn.’
Tom Cruise (‘Ethan Hunt’) and Simon reunite for the fourth installment of the ‘M:I’ series and are joined by new cast members Paula Patton, Josh Holloway, Tom Wilkinson and two- time Academy Award nominee Jeremy Renner.
An avid Tweeter, Simon (@simonpegg) has also been sharing his ‘M:I’ experiences…
As we learn in the ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ trailer, the IMF team has been blamed for a bombing at the Kremlin and in order to clear their names, the team must go rogue. ‘Benji Dunn’ does what he does best, hooking the IMF team up with some amazing gadgets but as he warns Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise)
We can’t wait to see what gadgets ‘Benji’ comes up with in ‘Ghost Protocol’ and it appears ‘Wired Magazine’ is excited too, naming the film one of 2011′s Most Intriguing Movies.
Simon told ScreenCrave.com that he views the fourth installment of ‘M:I’ as a “rebirth for the series.” He continued, “I feel like it’s a reinvigoration of this particular story. It was a series when it was on TV, so it’s a story that can have so many iterations. There are so many adventures to get into with this team of impossible mission fighters.”
Simon had a great time hanging out with Tom again, even playing some pranks on director, Brad Bird on the “M:I’ set. In fact, he was totally psyched to work with everyone on ‘Ghost Protocol’ and you can hear his enthusiasm as he talks to Access Hollywood in the video below….
From the high-speed action of ‘Mission: Impossible III’ to the bridge of the ‘Starship Enterprise’ (J.J. Abram’s ‘Star Trek’), the actor, writer and Si-Fi aficionado has made a career “to boldly go where no man has gone before.”
A Valentine baby, Simon John Beckingham was born on February 14, 1970 in Gloucester, England. After studying English Literature and Performance Studies at Stratford Upon Avon College, the affable comedian went on to study drama at the University of Bristol.
In 1993, Simon moved to London to try to launch a career as a stand-up comedian but had better luck in television, appearing in several TV comedies, such as ‘Asylum’ and ‘Six Pairs of Pants.’ Between 1998 through 2004, Simon was regularly featured on ‘The 99p Challenge’ on BBC Radio 4. In 1999, Simon created and co-wrote, along with his best friend, Nick Frost, the television sitcom, ‘Spaced.’ Simon was nominated for a British Comedy Award as Best Male Comedy Newcomer for his role as ‘Tim Bisley.’
The multi-talented Brit co-wrote and co-starred (as Tim Bisley) in the cult television series, ‘Spaced’ for two seasons before moving on to the big screen as ‘Shaun’ in ‘Shaun of the Dead.’ Named one of the best British comedies ever made by Empire Magazine, Simon not only starred in ‘Shaun of the Dead’ but he and co-writer, Edgar Wright, won British Independent Film Awards Best Screenplay for the film.
Obsessed with ‘Star Wars,’ Simon reveals in his memoir, ‘Nerd Do Well: A Small Boy’s Journey to Becoming a Big Kid,’ that he had a secret obsession with Carrie Fisher (Princess Leila in ‘Star Wars’), kissing a photo of her every night before he went to bed.
Combining a love of action and zombie films with his friendship with Nick Frost, the two also co-wrote and co-starred in ‘Hot Fuzz’ and well as the alien buddy comedy, ‘Paul.’
Fun factoid: Both of Simon’s parents, Gillian Rosemary (née Smith) and John Henry Beckingham as well as his sister briefly appeared in ‘Spaced.’ His mother also appeared in ‘Shaun of the Dead’ and ‘Hot Fuzz.’
In addition to ‘Ghost Protocol,’ Simon will also appear as ‘Inspector Thompson’ in ‘The Adventures of Tintin’ and is attached to the ‘Star Trek’ sequel, once again playing the iconic engineer, ‘Scoty.’
Whether he is teaching us how to ‘How to Lose Friends & Alienate People’ alongside Kirsten Dunst and Jeff Bridges or is voicing animated characters such as Reepicheep in ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’ and ’Buck’ in Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, we love Simon Pegg!
We are so excited to see super spy ‘Ethan Hunt’ (Tom Cruise) and his techie sidekick, ‘Benji Dunn’ (Simon Pegg) reunited in the latest installment in the ‘Mission: Impossible’ series, ‘Ghost Protocol!’
