Ever wondered how a scene in a movie is shot? Or why a scene plays out the way it does? Knight and Day director James Mangold pulls back the curtain in a talk with the New York Times on how Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz approached an open sequence in the summer action comedy!

Mangold reveals to fans how the scene revolves around miscommunication – with the comedy upped by Tom and Cameron’s dedication to their characters:

This is a fairly wonderful example of two people talking past each other. Both are so wonderful in the scene. What makes it so unique is each are completely honest.

More movie magic is made clear, with Mangold unmasking the means used to create the set. Using a giant gyroscope, the whole plane was moved for dramatic effect on a soundstage!

Imagine what you could do with that kind of set-up in your garage. :)

More behind the scenes stunt work for Knight and Day was revealed by Tom and Cameron in an interview with the Chicago Tribune.

Tom didn’t disappoint with his commitment to the role, the stunts and entertaining his fans!

We just wanted to entertain the audience. You just had to give it your all to get those shots. You really had to be in it full tilt.

Whether it was running and jumping off Austrian rooftops in the rain, racing motorcycles through the streets of Spain, or trusting Cameron with blazing guns inches from his face, Tom took the challenge of stunt work seriously.

With that inside info, no one will blame you for watching Knight and Day through your fingers!

Knight and Day stars Tom as Roy Miller, a rogue super spy on the run from a shadowy government agency trying to protect a powerful secret while avoiding all manner of threats. Circumstances team him with June; an unlikely civilian teammate who winds up on the run to exotic locales across the globe. The two strike up a romance while finding who they can really trust on this worldwide action romp!

Knight and Day is in theaters throughout the United States now!
