From the Official www.TomCruise.com Blog:
In honor of the movie ‘Brothers’ starring Tobey Maguire and Jake Gyllenhaal, Eric Nolan writes about “The Best of Modern Brother Casting” in Film.com. Eric starts the article with a mention of ‘Cain and Abel’, arguably the most famous brothers in literary and film history. He then goes on to mention (among others) Eric Bana and Orlando Bloom in ‘Troy’, Edward Norton and Edward Furlong playing the role of the Vineyard brothers in ‘American History X’, and Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman as the Babbit Brothers in ‘Rain Man’.
In ‘Rain Man’, Charlie Babbit (Tom Cruise) and Raymond Babbit (Dustin Hoffman) are not without the jealousy that usually characterizes stories about brothers. Raymond Babbit, mathematically gifted yet tragically autistic, gets their recently deceased father’s inheritance. Charlie who ran away from his father as a teenager, kidnaps Raymond, takes him on the trip of his life, in an effort to get the 3 million dollar inheritance. At the end of everything, Charlie gains back his humanity, and restores his relationship with his brother. Kind of like ‘The Prodigal Son’ don’t you think?
Check out this fan video of Charlie and Ray’s adventure, in which Charlie teaches his brother to gamble!
