At Tomcruise.com, we added some striking black-and-white photographs of Tom Cruise with the directors he has worked with to the picture gallery. In honor of the 10-year anniversary of ‘Eyes Wide Shut,’ we’d like to focus on one of the arguably greatest film directors of all time, Stanley Kubrick.
From ‘Dr. Strangelove’ and ‘A Clockwork Orange’ to ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ and ‘Full Metal Jacket,’ Kubrick created masterful pieces that garnered critical and commercial success. While at times controversial, Kubrick’s films are considered today a meticulous and provocative display of astonishing imagery that cemented his prolific career in cinema.
‘Eyes Wide Shut,’ Kubrick’s last film, stars Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman as a wealthy married Manhattan couple who become entangled in a sexual journey of eroticism and murder.
Interestingly, ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ was almost set aside for other projects. Kubrick wanted to make a Holocaust movie called ‘Aryan Papers,’ based on the novel “Wartime Lies” by Louis Begley, but Steven Spielberg beat him to the punch by releasing the similarly-themed ‘Schindler’s List’ first. Instead, in 1995, Kubrick and Warner Bros. announced the making of ‘Eyes Wide Shut.’
